Ergogriffe unterscheiden sich in der Form teilweise deutlich von der klassischen mehr oder weniger runden Griff-Form. Die Ergo-Form bietet in den meisten Fällen eine grössere Handauflage an der Aussenseite, die als komfortabler für Handballen und Gelenk wahrgenommen wird und trotzdem ausreichend Kontrolle bietet. Manche Ergogriffe bieten zudem noch integrierte Bar Ends und somit weitere Griffpositionen. Die meisten Ergogriffe sind Schraubgriff-Modelle, damit sich die Position nicht versehentlich verändert und ein genaues Einstellen leichter wird. Auch diese Griffe gibt es in kurzen Versionen für Drehgriff-Schalthebel. Die ergonomische Position ist in der Regel optimiert für relativ gerade Lenkerformen. Lenker mit starker Rückbiegung führen zu einer anderen Handstellung, die nicht in jedem Fall von der Ergo-Griffform profitiert.

Ergogriffe wurden in Zusammenarbeit mit führenden Sportmedizinern entwickelt, um die altbekannten Beschwerden vieler Radfahrer in den "Griff" zu bekommen.
